Astro is out here with a new single and its certain to get you ‘running out your sneakahs”. The song combines an addicting flow, catchy lyrics and perfect production to create one of the best songs of the summer. When I talked to Astro about what Sneakahs meant to him, he said “Sneakahs means a lot to me. It just tells me I can make something people enjoy and really mess with. It also tells me I can make something my bros can relate to and feel cause we’ve all been through it together”. Well, we’re really enjoying Sneakahs and we can’t wait to see what Astro has coming next. For fans of Lil Uzi Vert, Juice WRLD, and Lyrical Lemonade artists, Sneakahs is the perfect song for you. Astro is an artist hailing from Rochester, New York. We discussed his latest single, his biggest inspirations and more
Dami: How would you describe your sound?
Astro: I’d like to think my sound is basically me. It’s what I feel when it comes out. It’s my feelings on display for others but it’s also for them to take in and reinterpret in their own way if that makes sense.
Dami: What brought you into music in general?
Astro: I’ve always loved it but I thought it was unrealistic for some time but this changed when my view on life changed. I’ve only been doing it for like a year and I’ve noticed some change.
Dami: Who are your biggest inspirations?
Astro: Lil Wayne is the GOAT to me but I’m inspired by quite a few people. Pop Smoke’s a big one for his work ethic and how much he did in so little time (May he Rest in Peace). A few others are Gashi,6 Dogs, Juice WRLD(RIP), Lil Durk and the list goes on.
Dami: What is your creative process like?
Astro: It’s usually just me, my notes, a blunt, and the mic. I’ll stay up for days sometimes working on multiple tracks by myself. I mix all my vocals and I’m still learning every day. Shoutout to my boy KaloBallin,he’s the homie.
Dami: Where do you draw inspiration from?
Astro: From my life really. I’ve been through quite a bit. It’s good for anyone to write it down and say it aloud. I try to be an open book and obviously some things go unsaid but for the most part, just my life and the lives of the people around me who mean the most. The universe can be cold as hell and people gotta outlet that pain somehow. It’s either say it or feel it for me.
Dami: Any dream collabs?
Astro: Quite a lot to be honest. Probably too many to list but off the top of my head would be Wayne, Gashi, Lil Durk, Post Malone, pretty much anyone of my inspirations. Also, anyone I think is dope as a person too. If I really mess with your vibe and like your art, that’s enough for me.
Dami: What inspired you to write “Sneakahs”?
Astro: A mixed bag of things inspired it. Frustration with a lot of stuff I got going on still. Sometimes I write my homies frustration too if they going through it so when it drops, they can feel it. To me, music isn’t just therapeutic to make it, it’s also therapeutic to listen to and even though that’s a no-brainer, people can forget that sometimes. But yeah, just life really, problems with people, situations, emotions on all different levels.
Dami: What is your biggest challenge as an artist?
Astro: One day, it’s creative block; another day it’s just me feeling so low I don’t want to get out of bed. Investing in myself and my dream has never been a problem. I can put all of it aside for that. I’ve been through too much to give up on it and no matter how low I feel, I’ll get back on it. So yeah sometimes, I can be my biggest challenge: my anxiety, my thought process, my inability to get out of my own head, my mental and physical state. I’ve been in and out of the hospital my whole life so I guess you can say that’s a challenge to but that’s temporary. My mental state is me in the now and it can get in the way sometimes but I can push through the pain.
Dami: What are you hoping to achieve at the end of the year?
Astro: Hoping to achieve success in whatever form. I wanna develop my sound more and refine it as much as I can, make the best music I can and share it with the world.
Dami: What’s next for you after “Sneakahs”?
Astro: Just more life you feel me. Like imma keep doing what I’m doing to the best of my ability. I’ll keep pushing towards where I wanna be. I’ve got a lot of people to prove wrong and it’s been working so far. More music, more love, more happiness, I hope. But like I said, the universe can be cold so imma give it my all no matter what happens but I’ll keep leveling up no matter what.
