UNDEXD

ree

Undexd is an 18-year-old artist who was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. We discussed his introduction to hip hop, his sound and challenges he’s faced as a rapper

Grey: What got you into hip hop?

Undexd: I’ve always been into hip hop ever since I was 3 years old listening to Geto Boys and jumping in my dad’s knee but since 2018, I’ve been more into the melodic part of rap rather than the old school hip hop even though I still appreciate the older songs for sure

Grey: How would you describe your sound?

Undexd: I would say its mostly melodic sad rap but there are some exceptions. For example, my song “Warm and Cold” is more hardcore rap

Grey: Who are your biggest inspirations?

Undexd: Long term, I would probably say Juice WRLD and older artists such as The Beatles and Queen but lately I’ve been into a lot of Dro Kenji, Aries and Brakence

Grey: What will you say inspired you to be a rapper?

Undexd: My friend, Hauhwii inspired me. I was at his house recording music around 2019 and after that, I bought a mic and started recording at home

Grey: Can you tell us a bit more about your creative process?

Undexd: Its pretty simple actually. I get a beat or I look up YouTube beats and I just start freestyling. Personally, I like doing punch-in freestyling; rarely I have something written but I feel like the music gets more personal if you just speak on what you feel and think in the moment. For me, music is all about energy. After I’m done recording, I just go ahead and mix it. This could be the same day or another day depending on if I want to record more in the moment or if I feel like I’m done

Grey: Where do you gather inspiration from? Is it a TV show or something?

Undexd: To be honest, its mostly experiences from my past and my friends but sometimes I get inspiration from TV shows

Grey: Do you have any dream collabs?

Undexd: I have lots of dream collabs but the biggest dream would be to get a Toosii collab

Grey: What has been your highest and lowest points as an artist?

Undexd: I think my highest point is yet to be reached but my lowest point is definitely those times when I get writer’s block cause you know you can do better and it just comes out bad

Grey: How do you deal with it?

Undexd: Usually I do other things; go out with friends or play something or watch a movie or something. Just something to refresh my mind

Grey: What has been your biggest challenge as a rapper?

Undexd: Finding good producers to work with and overall just finding beats

Grey: What are your goals for this year?

Undexd: Get better and grind harder. I know everything else will work out eventually so there’s no need to rush it

Grey: What’s next for Undexd in terms of music?

Undexd: Right now, I’m working on something very special that might come out this year that I’m putting a lot of love into but for the next couple of months, I’ll be dropping singles that I personally feel is a big step up from my recent drops

Grey: Should listeners expect a Juice WRLD type vibe or more “old school” hip hop?

Undexd: Definitely a more melodic vibe. I’m trying to improve on my melodic stuff a lot and its starting now
