YUNG GAZE AND CRYOTIC

Yung Gaze aka Ryan Joseph Osborne and Cry0tic aka Samuel Carlos dos Santos da Silva are 19 & 17. Ryan is from Florida, United States and Cry0tic is from Espirito Santo, Brazil. We talked about their upcoming release w4TCH y0UR t0NE!! which hits Spotify and Apple Music on the 27th of May 2022.

We asked them a couple of questions to get to know them.

Mikel: What was your first introduction to Hip-Hop and music?

Yung Gaze: My first introduction to Hip-Hop, I believe it was Kanye West’s “Heartless” or “Stronger” when it would play on the radio in my mom’s car when I was little on the way back home from elementary school. Music period, I would say has definitely been a part of me since I was very little around 2 or 3, I think. I would love singing theme songs to my favourite kids tv shows, I think, even if it wasn't much.

Cry0tic: My first introduction to Hip-Hop was probably Eminem when I was like way younger, can’t remember the exact age. To music, when I was 5 or 6, I’d listen to a lot of Bruno Mars (specifically “It Will Rain”), 'cause that’s the only song we had saved on the computer. But I wouldn’t listen to music occasionally since I didn’t have any electronics that were mine at that age.

Mikel: When did you start your musical career?

Cry0tic: Around 2016, when I used to be more into Nerdcore.

Yung Gaze: Started my music career in 2016 after I felt music was more for me than what I was doing, which was YouTube. I needed a lot of practice and it worked out in my favour.

Mikel: Who inspires you?

Cry0tic: At the moment, probably Tyler, the Creator, I don’t make songs like him though.

Yung Gaze: I would definitely say Brakence, Nf, Softheart, and Powfu.

Mikel: What are your plans for the year?

Cry0tic: Drop an album, hopefully. That’s my only plan.

Yung Gaze: My plans for the year include, but are not limited to as I work on music, releasing my first album by the end of the year, hopefully get playlisted and growing my following a lot. I even am looking forwarded to maybe even get some features from some notable artists in the underground and the Hyperpop or Lofi rap community specifically as I make a different kind of music.

Mikel: What has been the most memorable part of being an artist?

Cry0tic: For me it’s the fun of making music and working on the lyrics. It’s so fun to let out feelings on a tune or just write what you think.

Ryan: The most memorable part of music is obviously that I do it for fun, but I also do it as a form of self-care for my emotions and my mental state. I am not the most popular artist but it does make my day when I see someone say “that song has helped me a lot man, I relate to it a lot”. The fact that a song of mine actually made someone feel better is the best thing I could’ve ever hoped for.

Mikel: Any dream collabs?

Cryotic: Tyler, the Creator, Rex Orange County and Lovejoy.

Ryan: Some of my dream collabs I would want are with Brakence, Softheart, Powfu and Snøw.
